A JEALOUS man who flew into a rage and ferociously attacked his former partner has been jailed for eight months.

Mohammed Ikram, 39, repeatedly struck Shelley Brown after she returned home at 3am when he was babysitting their children, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

Miss Brown suffered a perforated left ear drum and temporary hearing loss, a cut lip and serious bruising, prosecution barrister Austin Newman said.

Ikram, formerly of Lawn Street, East Bowling, Bradford, but bailed to an address in Milton Keynes, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm, criminal damage and breach of a restraining order.

The court heard that Miss Brown invited him to her home in October last year to look after their children while she attended a work charity event.

The couple had split up after being together 14 years. When Miss Brown arrived back, Ikram demanded to know who had dropped her off, Mr Newman said.

He grabbed her and followed her to the living room, slamming the door so hard it smashed off its hinges.

He asked for Miss Brown’s phone and struck her repeated blows with his fist. Ikram grabbed her throat and throttled her until she passed out.

He then took a kitchen knife, pointed it to his chest and urged her to push it in, saying: “Look what you made me do.”

Ikram’s barrister, James Bourne-Arton, said both were in drink at the time.

“All the problems bubbled over and were dealt with disastrously,” he said.

Judge Mark Savill told Ikram: “It was a sustained and ferocious attack.”
