BRADFORD’S clinical leaders are to hear how their key priority to improve patients’ experience of local NHS care have taken shape over the last two years.

NHS Bradford Districts Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has its public governing body meeting tomorrow when patients Wendy Parkin and Emma Stafford will be sharing their experiences of their successful practice patient groups at Wilsden and Shipley.

The patient group network was set up in 2013 so patients and the public can get involved with and influence decisions about their local health services. The network also provides an opportunity for patient groups to share good practice and support each other to develop.

Colin Philpott, the CCG’s lay member for patient and public involvement, said: “Delivering a high quality experience for patients is a clear priority for Bradford Districts CCG, and is part of the fabric of everything we do.

“We have a real opportunity to improve how patients experience care, and we are doing that by listening to and engaging with patients. Since the start of the CCG we have really made progress in listening to patients and acting on what they tell us, but we have still much to do to: especially to get better at showing people how good engagement is actually changes services and improving patients’ health.”

Key areas of work such as Bradford’s Healthy Hearts, mental health, maternity services and the review of enhanced services, such as physiotherapy, dermatology and skin surgery, involve patients and the public in the development of service design and identifying areas of improvement.

The governing body meets in public at the Thornbury Centre, Leeds Old Road, Bradford, from 5.30pm.
