A FOOD store in Baildon was ram-raided this morning after a Toyota Avensis smashed into the front of the building.

The Co-Operative food store on 1-3 The Stithes, off Baildon Road, was raided shortly before 2am, damaging the security shutters.

The raid was not thought to have been successful, although the store remains shut this morning.

A spokesman for the Co-Op Food Stores said: "We can confirm that a ram raid took place at a store in Baildon at approximately 2am.

"The store is presently closed, but we hope it will re-open for lunch time trade.

The police are investigating, and we would appeal for anyone with information about the incident to come forward."

A police spokesman said: "At 1.45am a vehicle has gone into the shop before travelling towards Bradford. The vehicle, a silver Toyota Avensis, was later found abandoned."

A police helicopter was dispatched to search for those responsible, but was unable to locate them.
