A YOUNG mother is waiting for the results of medical tests to see if she has been infected after she was stabbed by a mugger wielding a dirty syringe.

The woman was with her baby daughter when the vicious robber pounced.

He demanded money as she walked through a snicket with the child. When she refused, the mugger jabbed her in the arm with the needle.

Police, who fear the man may have confronted other victims, have now released an e-fit image of the suspect who attacked the 22-year-old mum-of-two in an alley off Harrogate Road, Eccleshill, Bradford.

The mugging took place while she was on the school run, at about 9am on Tuesday, March 17.

The victim was not seriously injured but was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary where she underwent tests. Her children were unharmed.

Police carried out detailed inquiries in the area following the incident and arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of attempted robbery.

He was questioned in connection with the offence, but was later released without charge.

Detective Inspector Paula Bickerdike, of Bradford District CID, said: "We believe this man is local to the area and may have approached other people in the vicinity of Harrogate Road or at other places in the Eccleshill area, either that day or on other occasions.

"He is clearly prepared to resort to violence and I would urge anyone who might recognise this man from this image, or anyone with any information which may assist our investigation, to contact Bradford District CID on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111."

At the time of the offence, the victim revealed on Facebook that she was pushing her baby, after dropping off her young daughter at school.

She said the man was begging for money in the snicket and when she would not give him any he "stuck a dirty needle in my arm."

The woman said she had medication and injections for HIV and hepatitis and had to wait for results and would be having tests for six months.

She added: "Thanks for all messages and comments. Fingers crossed everything's all right and he is caught. Hopefully some one might recognise him."

And she warned: "Be careful - Bradford awful."

The suspect is described as about 5ft 8ins tall, in his late 20s, with scruffy long blond dirty hair and a beard.

He was wearing dark trousers, a green parka coat and was carrying several plastic bags.
