YOUNG entrepreneurs at Dixons Allerton Academy have been praised for their business skills after the school hosted an enterprise challenge.

The Young Enterprise Company Programme asks young people in schools across the country to form business teams to find or create, brand and market a product throughout a school year.

The area final was held at the school, with its two teams performing particularly well against 10 ten other teams from schools in Halifax and Leeds.

Fun the Photo, a team selling personalised mugs, impressed judges and made it through to the county finals, which will take place at the University of Leeds in May.

And Glitz n Glam, a team that marketed and sold sweets, won the award for Best Communication and Teamwork.

The programme was set up to develop pupils business skills and make them more employable.

Chloe McNeill, young enterprise manager for West Yorkshire Projects, said: “All of the teams did very well to get to this stage of entering the competition and should be extremely proud of themselves.

“They have all set up their businesses, created or found products to sell and found selling opportunities for themselves. They have all created company financial reports and presented in front of a panel of judges and a large audience.”
