TWO of Bradford’s senior councillors are hoping to run for Parliament in Halifax.

The council’s employment and culture boss, Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe (Windhill and Wrose), and former Lord Mayor Cllr Naveeda Ikram (Little Horton) have both been shortlisted for the Labour nomination.

They are among five people on the all-women shortlist, alongside Jo Coles from York, Holly Walker-Lynch from Halifax and Calderdale councillor Dot Foster.

The successful candidate will be selected at a hustings in Halifax tomorrow.

The Halifax seat has been held by Labour since 1987. The currentand is currently held by Labour MP Linda Riordan, who is retiring due to ill health at the General Election in May.

Cllr Ikram had been one of three women shortlisted for the Bradford West nomination earlier this year, but came second to London councillor Amina Ali. After Mrs Ali stepped down just days later, Cllr Ikram was again shortlisted, but lost out to charity boss Naz Shah.
