BARE-CHESTED rugby players have come up with a novel way of raising money and attracting more women into their family-friendly club.

Tom Peel, who plays for Baildon RUFC's first team, has coaxed eight of his team-mates to join him and take part in a daring Man Auction at the club house, off Jenny Lane, Baildon, on Saturday, March 21.

Tickets for £5 are being snapped up but can still be bought on the night for anyone tempted to a night of cheeky fun, said Mr Peel, who got the idea from his former fundraising days at university.

"It's going to be the ultimate girls night out! Topless waiters and eight acts up for auction. We've got singing, dancing and possibly the odd striptease and the lads, some have been a bit more shy than others but they've been practising a special surprise for the end of the night. I'll leave that to the imagination!" he said.

And he added: "The ages of the turns on the night range from 19 to one of the lads whose got a son in his 20s. We're a family club but we're quite a young club member wise so we don't have many with families yet which is why we want to get more of a mix at the club and entice more women up with their families."

Mr Peel's act will see him miming to Queen's classic I Want To Be Free while giving the clubhouse a spring clean.

In addition to buying the act who will be at their mercy to do whatever task is asked of them, the successful bidders on the night will also win a prize from bouquets to meals for two and other desirable items, said Mr Peel.

Funds raised will be split between Baildon RUFC's own initiatives including its junior team and Bumbles Rugby - England's first mixed ability rugby team which gives sporting opportunities to players with Cerebral Palsy and learning difficulties.

Mr Peel, 26, said: "Our team has played the lads from Bumbles and been inspired by what a great set of lads they are. We wanted to do something for them and for ourselves and our own rugby programme which has seen more than 1,000 hours of rugby delivered to local children.

"It will be a night of devilish fun!"

Tickets are £5 each or £25 for a table which includes a free bottle of wine. To find out more contact Mr Peel on 07917842680 or check it out on facebook.com/events/1546681802277167
