TEACHERS, pupils and staff at schools and libraries across the Bradford district dressed up as their favourite characters to mark World Book Day yesterday.

Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland and Paddington Bear were just some of the famous faces seen at a series of sites.

Byron Primary School, Barkerend Road, Barkerend, held a five-hour read-a-thon where pupils read extracts from their favourite books.

Children aged between three and 11 also listened to their favourite books on CDs and used apps on iPads.

A Roald Dahl theme swept through Allerton Primary School and Nursery as the pupils celebrated the author's work.

Children wrote extra sections to The Twits and The Witches and searched their classrooms for a Willy Wonka-style golden ticket to win a book.
