THE Police and Crime Commissioner for West Yorkshire has said he will look at issues raised by the wife of a former policeman who claimed officers took no action after he discovered a cannabis farm in a Bradford city centre apartment.

Garry Gregory, 59, of Denholme, who served for 26 years with the Greater Manchester force and worked in murder, robbery and drugs squads, found what he described as an “elaborate cannabis farm” at Stonegate House, off Manor Row.

He runs a caretaker business and was inspecting the property with estate agent David Pollard, who alerted police. Mr Gregory claimed officers told them there was nothing they could do and asked the landlord to dispose of the cannabis. He was later assaulted by a man who sneaked into the apartment and stole his iPad.

Mr Gregory’s wife, Samantha, wrote to Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson. Mr Burns-Williamson confirmed: “I have received a letter from Mrs Gregory outlining her concerns which have been noted and my office has been in touch with her.

“Once I fully understand how Mrs Gregory would like to proceed, we will look at the issues she has raised in more depth with West Yorkshire Police. With regard to cannabis farms, West Yorkshire Police has undertaken a lot of good work to eradicate such farms. I would urge anyone with suspicions to contact them on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.”

Police insisted no cannabis plants were found in the property, and the complainant Mr Pollard was told it would be treated as criminal damage and was satisfied.

But Mr Gregory said yesterday: “The plants were drying out, but there were leaves on the plants and packets of cannabis bush in the apartment.”
