A PAIR of miniature electric cars used to teach schoolchildren about road safety in the 1980s have joined new exhibits at the Bradford Police Museum.

Retired Bradford police inspector, Martin Baines, who spent more than a year sourcing exhibits for the museum, said he hoped the two vehicles, driven by PC Patches and PC Percy, would prove popular with families visiting the City Hall attraction.

“They were donated by West Yorkshire Police, and in a sense they are classic cars,” said Mr Baines, the museum’s director.

The remote-controlled cars are one of many new exhibits at the museum, which has had more than 1,500 visitors since opening last August.

Highlights for this year include an exhibition on Bradford’s hangmen, a display featuring the cell that Harry Houdini escaped from, and a tribute to Rashid Awan, the first Asian police officer.

The museum will be open every Friday, between 11am and 3pm, and Saturday, between noon and 4pm, until November.
