POLICE are hunting two men who crashed a car into a garden wall before fleeing in the early hours.

Joan Etienne said she was woken by an "almighty bang" when the red Ford Focus smashed into her front fence and lawn just at 1am yesterday.

She said the pair ran away and left the car engine running.

The vehicle has since been removed by police, but left damage to the front wall, fence, gate and hedge.

Miss Etienne, a sales consultant, is worried about residents' safety and now fears for her three grandchildren playing outside in case of a further incident.

"I feel sick, " said Miss Etienne, who has lived at the house for 28 years.

"It woke me up. It was horrendous. I was in bed at the time. It's awful. It caused an almighty bang.

"I was shocked when I looked out of the window.

"Everybody can see the damage that it has caused. I couldn't believe what I had seen," she said, adding that it was lucky no-one was hurt.

"It's ridiculous. I could have been killed in this," she said.

"I'm scared of my three grandchildren playing out there now and I'm worried for my safety."

She said vehicles needed to slow down on Gipsy Street in Thornbury, where she lives.

"The cars are coming round here so fast. You can't believe the speed people do around here.

The 54-year-old wants retaining barriers which were outside her home and taken down last year, replaced by Bradford Council.

"If the barriers were there it would have not gone into my garden," she said.

"I want the Council to pay for the damage after they took down the barrier last year.

"The Council should have thought about people's safety when they took these barriers down. We need barriers here.

A Bradford Council spokesman said it would look into the issue.

Police said no-one had been arrested in connection with the crash. Officers are appealing for anyone with information about the incident, which happened at 1.14am yesterday, to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
