A BANNED driver stole a car, crashing it into vehicles, and drove at more than twice the speed limit in residential areas, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

Adam Coleman, 30, of Hendford Drive, Pollard Park, Bradford, drove off in a Volkswagen Golf being repaired at a garage in Halifax.

Prosecutor Heather Gilmore said Coleman failed to stop for police and hit a number of cars. The occupants of one car were trapped inside.

Police stopped Coleman and sprayed him with CS gas, but he drove off again, reaching 70mph in a 30mph zone, forcing a person to jump out of the way. He hit a lamp-post in St Enoch’s Road, Wibsey, and ran away, but was arrested.

He has previous convictions for stealing vehicles, driving while disqualified and robbery and committed the offences six weeks after being released on licence.

Recorder Kate Tulk told him he had driven someone else’s vehicle dangerously while disqualified. He was jailed for 15 months and banned for five years.
