Plans have been unveiled for a royal visit to the district later this month.

The Princess Royal will visit the Carers Resource at Broughton Hall Business Park, near Skipton, around lunchtime on Monday, February 19.

Princess Anne has been invited to visit the group to see its pioneering project, which supports carers by working with GP surgeries.

Anne Smyth, director of the Carers Resource, said: "The Princess will talk about the work of the national charity and at the same time meet local GPs, nurses, carers and members of staff who have been involved in our project."

The royal visitor will spend about 20 minutes at the Carers Resource premises before travelling through the Broughton Hall estate to the Utopia centre, where she will meet a further 70 guests, including dignitaries.

Mrs Smyth said: "We are delighted and thrilled she is coming.

"We work with GPs, nurses and health centre staff to identify unpaid family carers and encourage them to seek and accept our help.

"We are one of the national leaders and we are proud of what we have achieved."

The group is an independent charity, but is a member of the Princess Royal Trust of Carers, of which Princess Anne is president.

The trust is currently working with Royal College of General Practitioners to help identify carers, improve carers' health and train GPs in carers' issues.
