A LEADING Tory says Bradford can have a "real renaissance" after visiting one of the city's charities.
Work and Pensions Secretary Ian Duncan Smith saw the work of the Bradford Bulls Foundation during a trip to Odsal stadium today.
Mr Duncan Smith met students of a BTEC diploma in sports coaching and development, run by the team's charity and he was given a tour of the stadium.
The Bradford Bulls Foundation works with 50,000 adults, children and young people each year to provide services to the Bradford district and wider areas.
The Foundation uses the power of sport to educate and inspire the community through a range of activities, including sport, education and arts and culture.
Mr Duncan-Smith said: "This Foundation is fantastic.
"Bradford is a city that could have a real renaissance now.
"Bradford is a place that has a good quality of life, ten times better than in London. Schemes like this are giving people real skills.
"With the Northern Powerhouse, in ten to 15 years there will be more balance in the UK.
"Cash from the Leeds City Region can be used on schemes like this."
