A FORMER Bradford Speedway star is raising money for a severely-injured rider by attempting to complete a four-lap race on one wheel.
Joe Screen, a world under-21 champion and Bradford Dukes’ most expensive signing, is well-known for celebrating wins by doing a lap while pulling a wheelie – but he has never completed four laps.
Screen will attempt the challenge in Sheffield on March 22 at Ricky’s Big Day, which is being held in aid of speedway rider Ricky Ashworth who suffered horrific injuries while riding for Berwick at Scunthorpe 15 months ago.
Ricky still needs round-the-clock care at his parents’ home in Salford. The aim of Ricky’s Big Day is to raise enough money to build a small ground-floor bedroom and wet room to help him lead as normal a life as possible. Screen said: “I’m sure I can do it and it will be a very good cause.”
Screen can be sponsored by bank transfer to Yorkshire Bank account 48008573, sort code 05-02-11, quoting Screeny.
