A 51-YEAR-OLD man was caught on camera putting his hand up a schoolgirl's skirt as she waited at a pelican crossing in Bradford city centre, a jury heard.

Footage of the assailant groping the 14-year-old child in broad daylight before walking off up the street towards Morrisons was played at Bradford Crown Court today.

The CCTV shows her standing alone at the junction of Manor Row and Upper Piccadilly before running into the road after her attacker grabs her from behind.

Jerzy Gurajczyk, of Sunbridge Road, Bradford, denies sexually assaulting the girl on the late afternoon of Valentine's Day last year.

Prosecutor Tim Capstick said she was in her school uniform and on her way to the city's Ice Rink to meet friends and go skating.

She travelled to the city centre by bus and was waiting for the green man at the crossing when she became aware of someone directly behind her.

Mr Capstick alleges that the footage shows Gurajczyk indecently assaulting her.

She turns to briefly confront him before fleeing across the road and telling two passers-by what has just happened.

They told her to report the matter to the police.

Mr Capstick showed the jurors the distinctive two tone jacket the Crown alleges the defendant was wearing at the time.

He said that a still photograph of the assailant was circulated to police officers working in Bradford.

Five days after the assault, Gurajczyk was arrested when a police community support officer spotted him wearing the same jacket , it is alleged.

He told the police he was in the city centre at the time of the assault but it was not him.

An identity parade was held but the girl did not pick him out.

She did not give evidence in court because the content of her statement was not in dispute, the jury was told.

The girl told the police she felt scared and vulnerable after the attack.

She was carrying her school bag and a holdall containing her skating outfit when her assailant struck.

She said: "I felt like there was someone standing in my personal space, directly behind me. I then felt a hand go up my skirt and between my legs."

She turned and screamed in the man's face before running into the road without looking.

The jury heard she burst into tears when she told her mother what had happened.

The trial continues.
