A THRIVING sports club fears it could fold under current plans to replace a Keighley secondary school.

Airedale Hockey Club has been based at Oakbank for about 15 years, playing and training there.

But the astro facilities will be lost for up to three years during construction of the new school. And efforts by the club to find temporary alternative provision have so far drawn a blank.

“We have been looking elsewhere across Bradford and beyond but there’s nothing suitable and available,” said chairman, Richard Stewart.

“You can’t use 3G or 4G pitches for hockey and where suitable sites do exist, they are fully booked.

“I am optimistic that we can find a solution and we’ll be seeking meetings this month with the relevant bodies to try to sort something out.”

One parent, Tim Done, said: “From my understanding, the proposals and timescales for this development are not yet set in stone.”

Work is due to start late this year on the new £16 million structure in Oakworth Road. The building will include a library resource centre and dining area, each extending upwards through the three floors.
