A FIRST World War-themed creation took the honours in a Christmas cake competition run by a Yorkshire-wide residential care home firm.
The cake, made by residents and staff at Scholebrook Court, Tong Street, Bradford, was crowned the Yorkshire winner of the Anchor retirement properties and care home's Christmas cake competition.
The design, which featured a series of poppies and vegetables, beat off competition from 21 other cakes made by fellow Anchor care homes' staff and residents across the county.
Other entrants included postboxes and a nightmare before Christmas theme.
The Scholebrook Court cake will now compete at the national final, to be held in London.
It was crowned the winner by a team of judges at Anchor's Hallcroft care home in Church Street, Shipley. The judges included Hallcroft resident Ernie Oldfield, who turns 103 on December 21.
The annual competition aims to encourage residents to eat a wholesome and seasonal diet but will include a festive treat, such as a Christmas cake.
Ange Smith, Hallcroft manager, said: "It was a really good selection of cakes.
"We have staged the Yorkshire competition at Hallcroft for the last five years. The cakes just get better every year."
