A 48-YEAR-OLD man has gone on trial accused of sexually abusing a young girl more than 35 years ago.

Shabir Haider denies a string of allegations, dating between 1977 and 1981, when his alleged victim was aged between nine and 12.

Haider, of Branby Avenue, East Morton, threatened to tell tales about the girl if she did not let him touch her indecently, a jury at Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

The complainant, now in her mid 40s, wept as she told the police Haider was always horrible to her when they were children and trying to get her into trouble.

She said he made her skin crawl when he abused her and he would then laugh at her.

"Wherever I was, he would come and find me," she said.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said the abuse made her feel disgusting.

She said Haider, who is two years older, would expose himself and make her look.

He then made her choose which private parts of her body to show to him.

She alleged he would rub himself up against her and simulate sex with her, making her feel sick.

He abused her while she was sitting partially clothed on a kitchen unit at his home in the Bradford area, she said.

Haider pleads not guilty to eight charges of indecent assault.

Prosecutor Nick Askins told the jury that Haider abused the girl on almost a weekly basis, threatening to tell tales to get her into trouble if she refused to co-operate.

Mr Askins said Haider's mother 'gave him a hiding' when the girl did complain but he continued to assault her.

The court was told that the abuse stopped when one of Haider's female relatives caught him behaving indecently with the girl on a settee.

Mr Askins said the girl later told a friend that Haider had sexually assaulted her.

The police were alerted in 2012 and he was arrested last year.

He denied all the allegations against him when he was interviewed by detectives.

Haider's alleged victim broke down and cried continually during her video taped interviews, played in court on the first day of a trial expected to last all this week.

The trial continues.
