FUNDRAISERS supporting Allerton Cat Rescue will be at Morrisons in Girlington, Bradford, today collecting money and food tins from shoppers.

Brenda Satterley, who has run the rescue centre for more than 40 years, says it is desperate times with more than 200 hungry mouths to feed and a vet's bill of £4,000 to pay off.

She said: "We are choc-a-block with no money to spare. We desperately need money donations and donations of cat food otherwise we might have to shut our doors. We can't take any more in but people are just leaving cats and kittens on my doorstep.

"The other day I found an empty box with a small hole chewed out of it, it must have been a tiny kitten but goodness knows where it went, I looked everywhere but couldn't find it. It's tragic people are abandoning these helpless animals like that. They can't take it for granted we can look after them all."

Anyone who wants to donate to Allerton Cat Rescue can send a cheque, payable to Allerton Cat Rescue, 258 Allerton Road, Allerton, Bradford BD15 7QX or go to allertoncatrescue.co.uk.
