BRADFORD representatives from organisations supporting asylum seekers and refugees have been to a City of Sanctuary Summit in Birmingham.
The gathering included refugees, migrants, advocates and supporters from more than 100 civil society organisations across Britain who voted unanimously to work to stop negativity facing those who seek sanctuary in theUK.
The summit was organised by national and local organisations working with migrants and refugees and led by two refugees Zrinka Bralo and Forward Maisokwadzo – former journalists from Bosnia and Zimbabwe who now campaign for the rights of migrants and refugees.
Bradford’s status as a City of Sanctuary was reaffirmed in January 2014 after a rigorous external review.
Will Sutcliffe, of Bradford’s City of Sanctuary group, said: “The city can be proud that it is recognised nationally as a place where people fleeing persecution from some of the world’s worst trouble spots can receive welcome and support.”
