EIGHT hundred schoolchildren gathered at Bradford Cathedral for a mass performance of Peter and the Wolf.
The show followed a trial event held in April as part of the Cathedral’s Education and Music Department’s outreach programmes.
Due to demand from more than 15 schools in the district, five additional performances took place this week, allowing youngsters in Years 4 to 7 to take part.
Cathedral spokeswoman Sandra Howard said the event was aimed at helping Key Stage 2 pupils to “appreciate and understand a wide range of high quality live and recorded music drawn from different traditions and from composers and musicians.”
Peter and the Wolf was written in 1936 by Sergei Prokofiev. This week’s performances were narrated by Cathedral choir member Donald Stephenson, with assistant director of music Jonathan Eyre on the organ.
Mr Stephenson studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and made his debut with Welsh National Opera. He has sung for Scottish Opera, English National Opera and has appeared in productions around the world.
