THE Labour Party has selected its candidate to fight the general election in Bradford South.
Judith Cummins, formerly a Bradford councillor and currently a councillor in Leeds, is hoping to replace long-standing Labour MP Gerry Sutcliffe, pictured, when he steps down next year.
Cllr Cummins won the support of local Labour members at a hustings meeting in Wyke this weekend.
She said: “I’m excited and deeply proud to have been selected to stand for Labour in the seat where I was first a councillor.
“I want to pay tribute to Gerry Sutcliffe who has worked hard for the people of Bradford South for decades.
“I will be a strong voice standing up against this Tory-led government, whose policies have led to the people of Bradford South seeing the biggest fall in living standards for a generation.”
Cllr Cummins is married with two children. She spent 10 years as a benefits adviser and has also worked with colleges across Yorkshire.”
