BRADFORD schoolchildren put Shakespeare into a modern context for performances at a festival celebrating the Bard's work.

Youngsters from St Matthew's C of E, St Stephen's C of E and Horton Park primary schools took part in the week-long Shakespeare for Schools festival held at the Alhambra Studio.

The festival saw schoolchildren from across the district performing excerpts from Shakespeare plays, with the aim of developing literacy skills.

Youngsters from the MyBD5 clusters of schools have been preparing for the festival since September and are re-telling sections of Much Ado About Nothing, swapping Tuscany for the British seaside, The Tempest, in contemporary dress, and Hamlet, set in the Manchester student scene of the 1990s.
