A FORUM being held next month will discuss the role music and art can play in helping students achieve better results.

The Public Forum for Education, which takes place on Wednesday, December 3, will see speakers exploring how the music and arts curriculum can impact on pupils’ all-round development.

They will look at how schools can enrich the curriculum to encompass the arts in ways that can complement a schools need to achieve results.

Bradford Council's music and arts service will be involved in the discussion.

Councillor Ralph Berry, the Council's portfolio holder for children’s services, said: "The creative arts have an important role to play in the curriculum. The forum will explore ways in which music and art can help young people develop so they can achieve positive outcomes.

"If you are a parent, a carer or a young person with an interest in this topic then come along and get involved. We’d welcome your views.”

Michael Jameson, strategic director of children’s services at the Council, said: "Art and music can add a rich dimension to a young person’s education and experience, and can support learning in other areas. We want to hear about best practice in this area so that it can be shared.”

The Public Forum for Education is an open forum, where everyone, including parents and carers, young people and professionals, can contribute.

It will take place at Dixons Allerton Academy, Rhodesway, Bradford, on December 3 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

The music and arts service provides a variety of services including specialist instrumental music teaching in schools, to individuals and small groups; out of school ensembles and performance opportunities; a range of dance, drama and visual arts provision for schools; as well as holiday art clubs.

Young people from the district recently took place in a World War One Remembrance Day concert held in Keighley. Organised by the Council's music and arts service, the event saw The Bradford Youth Orchestra, Bradford Youth Wind Orchestra, Cullingworth Primary and Wilsden Primary schools’ choirs performing songs associated with both World Wars.
