A PLANNING application for a venue which had been acting as the front for a criminal racket will still be considered by planners, despite the applicant being in jail.

Disgraced former Bradford councillor Khadam Hussain (pictured) was jailed last week after masterminding an immigration scam from The Palace, a function venue in City Road, Bradford.

Hussain, 62, was trying to get retrospective planning permission for a shisha lounge built at The Palace when he was imprisoned.

A Bradford council planning enforcement spokesman said the authority had started enforcement action after the shisha lounge was built without planning permission. As a result, it received a retrospective planning application.

The spokesman said: “The application will run its natural course.

“We have two open enforcement cases relating to The Palace – one relates to an alleged use as an indoor market, never pursued by the owners.”
