A BAND of precision drummers at Beckfoot School, Bingley have beaten thousands of other young musicians to win the chance to perform at the Royal Albert Hall today.

Drumline, made up of past and present pupils together with music teacher Mark Lewalski will appear on stage at a national celebration of youth music.

And their spectacular success is due to two year's of passionate practice, said Mr Lewalski.

"You don't get to achieve something like this without an awful lot of work and dedication.

"Their commitment level has been tremendous and while Beckfoot is always very supportive of its music students, most of the work has been done in their own time."

Two band members, Jack Blakey and Bill Livingstone, both 18, left school this summer, but have returned from university to perform at next week's special gig.

And other drummers Joe Manning, 17 and Dave Adsett, 16 may soon be joined by other Beckfoot pupils keen to follow their success.

"On the back of this there's a queue of people wanting to get involved in percussion because they are such good role models," Mr Lewalski said.

"The idea is to keep this group together, but create feeder groups to bring on new talent."

Bill Livingstone summed up Drumline's eagerness to get on stage in London and the attitude that has brought them such a reward.

"The funny thing is that even if we didn't all play the drums together, we'd still all be mates anyway," he said .
