A KEIGHLEY mosque has issued an invitation to the public to attend a child sexual exploitation seminar next week.
Keighley Muslim Association, which is organising Wednesday’s event, said it had been “deeply appalled and shocked” at the extent of the grooming issue.
It was revealed in September that two-thirds of all investigations into child sex grooming in West Yorkshire were in Bradford district, including Keighley.
“Child sexual exploitation is a very complex issue involving people from different backgrounds but we are aware that it is often linked with men of Pakistani origin,” said Mohammed Saleem, the association’s education and community relations officer.
“This issue, however, has nothing to do with Islam.
“We all have an individual and collective duty to safeguard our children.”
The seminar – at the Emily Street mosque – will begin at 5.30pm, but will be preceded by a tour of the building from 4pm and refreshments.
