LONDON-STYLE New Routemaster buses could be coming to Bradford, under plans unveiled by transport company First.

One of the distinctive double-deckers was on show in Bradford's City Park on Saturday, as the bus operator gauged people's views on the plan.

The buses would form part of a package of investment called New Bus for West Yorkshire, which would also include smart ticketing and faster journey times.

It would be an alternative to a plan by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to take control of the county's bus network, setting routes and fares itself.

Local bus firms are fighting against this idea by clubbing together to come up with their own plans to improve services.

Paul Turner, of First West Yorkshire said: “We want the public to let us know what they think of the New Bus package of proposals so that we can consider how they might be introduced.

"We are also urging the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to join bus operators in a partnership which would help provide the stable operational background required to make such a significant investment."

The buses will also be on display in Shipley on Thursday, November 6, and Thursday, November 13.
