PARENTS have been urged by Northern Powergrid to spend five minutes reminding children to be wary of the dangers around electricity during half-term week.
It has warned against dangers such as climbing pylons and straying near overhead power lines or sub-stations. The awareness campaign is asking children to “stay safe, play safe, and stay away from electricity” during their break from school.
Geoff Earl, director of safety at Northern Powergrid, said: “It’s vital youngsters realise interfering, accidentally or otherwise, with any part of the electricity network can be fatal.
“We appeal to parents and guardians to chat to their children about the potential dangers, and what to do if they kick a ball into a sub-station or see anything hanging from power lines.”
