A rape victim, who wrote songs about her experiences as she battled to rebuild her life, is hoping one will soon be released as a single.

The 44-year-old Bradford woman aims to have 'Voices' released to coincide with the publishing of a book of her poetry, before Christmas.

The woman, whose identity is protected, has written poetry and a number of songs - reflecting her experiences - to help her deal with what happened and to encourage other rape victims to report them to police.

'Voices' has been recorded by a professional singer and is set to be performed at Valley Parade on a Bradford City match day later in the season.

The victim sparked a major police investigation when she contacted them in 2010 to report the attack on her in the late 1990s. She fought for her life, hitting the rapist with a brick during her terrifying ordeal.

Her revelations led to the conviction of Windhill sex beast Brian Jackson for the rape of three women, causing grievous bodily harm to one of them, causing actual bodily harm to a fourth woman, indecently assaulting a fifth, and sexually assaulting and attempting to rape a man. Jackson's offending spanned three decades and he was jailed for life in January 2012.

The woman said yesterday: "I have had good times and bad times over the past few years, but I have stuck in there and persevered and I am gradually getting there.

"The poetry and the songs are helping me to get through what was a nightmare. I've been working really hard to get these songs done. I didn't want what one person did to me to take away something that I really enjoy."

The woman is being helped in her book and record project by Bradford City commercial manager Gary Chadwick.

Mr Chadwick said: "I have met her three or four times and I think she is brave to do what she is doing. She wants to support charities with this and if we can get people singing the song we can hopefully do some good.

"She has got three songs now, so we are hoping to bring out an EP, with the 'Voices' single, at the same time as the book of poetry, in time for Christmas. Then there are plans for an LP next year.

"We are happy at Bradford City for 'Voices' to be sung at half time during a match towards the end of the season. We have offered any support we can give."
