A KEIGHLEY councillor is spearheading efforts to bring derelict land off Fell Lane back into use.

Coun Adrian Farley is helping residents who want to spruce up the triangle of scrubland on Westfell Way.

Community workers Pip Gibson and Karen Wadsworth are also supporting the campaign to brighten up the neglected area of privately-owned land.

The trio hosted an outdoor public meeting last summer to gather the views of residents about what should be done with land.

They set up a stall on the land and chatted with people living in nearby streets while serving them tea and coffee, funded with £500 from social landlord Yorkshire Housing.

Coun Farley, who represents Keighley West ward on Bradford Council, said that one of the main issues raised by residents was the “eyesore” state of the land.

He said: “Some people were asking for a play area, but the bulk of the people just wanted it tidying up, bulbs planting, and looking nice.”

Coun Farley said Bradford Council officers were currently trying to discover who owned the land, saying: “It seems to be unowned land. It doesn’t seem to be registered.

Residents will be given an update on the campaign during a Christmas event in December at the Yorkshire Housing office in nearby Salisbury Road.

The project is one of several planned community improvements that Coun Farley is working on with residents in the Fell Lane, Exley Head and Wheathead Lane areas.
