DETECTIVES hunting a robber who attacked a Bradford shopkeeper with a hammer have released an e-fit image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

The attempted robbery happened just before 9pm on August 28, when a man entered a convenience store on Thornton Road and demanded money while brandishing a small claw hammer.

The store owner tried to disarm the suspect but was repeatedly hit with the hammer.

Nothing was stolen and the suspect ran away along Middlebrook Way.

He is described as dark-skinned, aged 20 to 35, slim and between 5ft 7ins and 6ft tall. He was clean-shaven and wearing a dark jacket and gloves.

Police are also continuing to investigate possible links between the attempted robbery and three others that happened less than 24 hours apart in Allerton Road and Girlington Road in Bradford, and Staveley Road in Keighley, in August.

Detective Inspector Ryan Bragg, of Bradford District CID, said: "Our enquiries are continuing into these incidents and we would urge anyone who might recognise this man, either from this picture or his description, to contact Bradford District CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
