AN angry father has blasted a Bradford nursery after his three-year-old son left the site unnoticed by staff.

Little Kayden Newitt, who attends the nursery at Carrwood Primary School, Eversley Drive, Holme Wood, went missing after he had walked out of the site through the school's car park.

Kayden's mother, Becky Newitt, waited outside the front gates from 11.45am on October 2 but did not see him leave after ten minutes when all of the other pupils had been collected by their parents.

Minutes later he was found in a park on the same street as the school by a fellow parent of a nursery pupil who recognised him.

Details of the incident have emerged the day after the Telegraph & Argus reported that another three-year-old boy walked unnoticed out of his nursery at Killinghall Primary and Nursery School, Bradford Moor.

He then walked up Killinghall Road towards Undercliffe, crossed the busy main road and went into Price Cut general store on Fagley Road - 0.3 miles from the nursery.

Kayden's father, Christopher Newitt, 32, of Eversley Drive, Holme Wood, said he and his wife are now on "tenterhooks" in case it happens again.

He said: "It's ridiculous.

"We are on edge all of the time now. What if it happens again? What could have happened? My wife has been having dreams about it.

"I feel it should not have happened in the first place. Anything could have happened outside.

"We are on tenterhooks. We don't want it to happen to anyone else.

"You need to feel like your children are going to be safe when they go to school.

"Anything could have happened to him. He could have been kidnapped. The roads there are dangerous.

"He was at the top of the street, at the park.

"Luckily, a parent had seen him and took him back to the school grounds.

"The school did not have any clue he had gone, he got past three staff. They had not seen him at all.

"They shut the door and my wife was banging on the window and said 'where is my son'.

"Nothing like this has happened before. The staff on the door were not doing what they are supposed to be doing. The same staff have still been on the door since.

"Kayden did not cross the road, quite a lot of cars go up there.

"The school said that the staff are going to be reprimanded."

Nigel Cooper, executive headteacher at Carrwood Primary School, said: “We have met with the family, explained the circumstances and apologised.

"As a result of our inquiries within the nursery, we have changed procedures to ensure this never happens again.”
