NHS staff swapped scalpels and stethoscopes for spades and shoves to help out with a 'grow your own' project at Horton Community Farm, in Bradford.
NHS Bradford City and NHS Bradford Districts clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) chose the city centre farm for a staff team volunteering challenge as it fits with the aim of the CCGs to help improve people’s health and wellbeing, by providing fresh fruit and veg to local people
There are also low maintenance allotments where they can grow their own food.
The staff helped tidy up the community garden created some compost bays to help local people to grow their own food.
The farm team who work on the project regularly, which is a social enterprise, are paid to work only a few hours a week so help from the CCG staff was really welcome.
