FIRE crews from Fairweather Green were called to an arson attack on a car outside the owner's home in the early hours of this morning.

All four wheels of the parked silver Mercedes C220 were set alight outside a property in St Margaret's Place, Lidget Green at around 3.20am this morning.

The fire spread to the car's engine compartment but crews were able to put out the blaze before it spread any further in the vehicle.

Police officers also attended the scene. No-one was injured or suffered smoke inhalation in the incident.

Steven O'Keefe, crew commander from Fairweather Green Fire Station, said: "It was a deliberate ignition.

"You could tell someone had attempted to get the whole car going unsuccessfully.

"We managed to restrict the fire to the engine compartment and the four wheels.

"All four wheels had been set alight."

Anyone with any further information is urged to call the police on 101.
