SECRETS, suspense and suspicion are at the centre of Keighley Playhouse’s latest production.

Go Back for Murder (pictured) is an Agatha Christie whodunnit which unfolds with the shocking revelation of a family secret.

Cans of red herrings are opened, and there are seemingly never-ending twists and turns in the intriguing tale from the queen of mystery.

Based on her book Five Little Pigs and widely considered to be one of her strongest plots, it’s the story of Caroline, sentenced to prison for poisoning her husband.

Following her death, Caroline’s daughter finds a letter claiming her innocence. If this is true, why did Caroline offer a poor defence? Would the truth be better out after her death?

Director Deborah Mouat says: “Carla is on a mission to clear her mother’s name, and with the assistance of Justin Fogg, the son of her mother’s defence lawyer, they track down the suspects from the past and proceed to uncover the truth.

“Discovering what happened on that fateful day, we must take an intriguing trip back in time – but that comes at a price.”

As the drama unfolds, the play flashes back to the time of the murder and it seems everyone linked to Caroline had a reason and an opportunity to commit the crime.

But why did Caroline accept her fate without a fight if she wasn’t guilty? Had she something to hide?

“Through inconsistencies in testimonies, Carla feels she can unravel the truth of what happened to her parents,” Deborah adds. “You can watch the poison actually being administered – if you know where to look. But with everyone gathered together there is plenty going on to distract you.

“Like mentally unravelling a ball of wool, all is revealed in pure, classic Christie style.”

Go Back For Murder runs at Keighley Playhouse from October 20 to 25. Tickets are available on 07599 890 769.
