THE bells of City Hall rang out across the city to celebrate the venue's first wedding.

The first couple to wed at the venue's brand new register office were Sarah Caroline Dillon and Sean David Ward who said 'I do' yesterday lunch time.

The new 'Mr and Mrs', from Denholme, enjoyed their wedding breakfast with 65 guests in the iconic building's banqueting hall.

The meal was prepared by Bradford Council's catering manager Brian Laverick, who has catered for many important dignitaries, including Her Majesty the Queen.

Tables were arranged in a horseshoe-shaped setting, previously done twice for royalty, and the food was sponsored by a variety of suppliers.

Earlier in the day, Look North presenter Harry Gration and the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Mike Gibbons, officially opened the new register office.

The happy couple, who booked their big day well in advance, also had photos taken on the Grand Staircase in City Hall, which was officially opened exactly 100 years.

The couple held their evening reception at the Midland Hotel.

Leaving City Hall to a crowd of well-wishers and clouds of confetti, Sarah said: "It was wonderful - everything I dreamed of. The venue was absolutely beautiful too."

A chimney sweep and horse greeted the newly weds.

Leader of the Council David Green said: "City Hall is much admired by visitors from all over the country and provides a beautiful heritage setting for weddings. City Park also provides a fabulous backdrop for photos.

"I hope Sean and Sarah enjoy their day and I wish them all the very best for the future."
