A SCULPTURE with a hard-hitting message hidden inside has gone on show in Bradford's City Park.

The GIFT box, which looks like a giant wrapped present, is on display to raise awareness of human trafficking during Bradford Safeguarding Week.

Outside, there are gift tags with messages like 'See the world and earn good money', but inside the reality of victims' lives is laid bare.

Soroptimist International of Yorkshire arranged the instillation.

Its president Margaret Cook said their volunteers would be on hand to talk to visitors.

The UN GIFT box is a joint project by STOP THE TRAFFIK and the United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking.

There have been a number of high-profile sexual exploitation cases in the district in recent months.

Last week, five men, including four from Bradford, were jailed for a total of more than 28 years for trafficking a 13-year-old Sheffield girl for sex.

Councillor Ralph Berry, executive member for children's services at Bradford Council, was at the unveiling of the GIFT box.

He said: "It shows that in Bradford we are prepared to speak directly about these issues and to get everybody to understand what they can do to stop it, because what happened to the young woman from Sheffield was horrible beyond belief."

The box will be open from10am until 4pm until Saturday, October 11.
