THE southbound carriageway of the M606 has been reopened following a serious accident.

The road was closed in both directions following the multiple car pile-up which left at least three people injured.

Police said four vehicles were involved in the collision, with both sides of the carriageway closed at around 2.30pm to allow the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to land.

The incident occurred just after 2pm on the northbound carriageway between junction two, Merrydale Road, and junction three at the Staygate Roundabout.

The Highways Agency said the northbound carriageway remained closed between those exits for a police investigation.

Northbound traffic is being diverted via Staithgate Lane, with congestion backing up to Chain Bar on the M62.

The extent of the injuries is not yet known.

First West Yorkshire is reporting delays of up to 45 minutes on all of its Bradford services.
