A 58-YEAR-OLD woman is to be sentenced next month for stabbing her partner to death with a kitchen knife on Easter Sunday.

Miroslawa Dawidowicz wept at Bradford Crown Court yesterday as she publicly confessed: "I am guilty of manslaughter."

Dawidowicz denied murdering Czeslaw Zawadzki on April 20 at the home they shared in Washington Street, Girlington, Bradford.

Stephen Wood, barrister for the Crown, said the not guilty plea was acceptable to the prosecution, based on a defence of "loss of control."

"Given the domestic background to this case, it is a plea that the Crown are minded to accept," he said.

Mr Wood said he had fully discussed the "rationale" for the guilty plea to manslaughter with the police and the Crown Prosecution Service.

Dawidowicz, who has short greying hair, was produced in court from the cells and assisted by a Polish interpreter.

She was flanked by two dock officers and wore a white jacket, black shirt with a red stripe and grey trousers for the short hearing.

Her barrister, Richard Wright QC, said a psychiatric report had been prepared for the sentencing hearing that gave a full picture of the background and history of the defendant.

He said it was such a full report that he did not need a pre-sentence report from the probation service.

Mr Wright conceded that a prison sentence was inevitable when Dawidowicz is sentenced on October 24.

The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, said he had received medical reports from the Crown and the defence.

He told the defendant: "The plea of guilty you have entered today to the offence of manslaughter is the way that the case is now going to go forward from here.

"What remains is for you to be sentenced for this offence. That cannot happen today but will happen on the 24th of October.

"This will be a prison sentence. The length of the sentence will be a matter for the judge sentencing you and you are in custody until that date."

Judge Thomas said the case may next be heard at Bradford Crown Court or in front of a High Court Judge sitting at Leeds Crown Court.

Mr Zawadzki, 59, was found with fatal stab wounds at the terrace house shortly before 12.30pm.

Police and paramedics tried to save him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dawidowicz was arrested by murder-squad detectives the same day.
