A MAN who stabbed his friend twice in the neck after a drink and drug-fuelled row walked free from court after the judge heard they were still good mates.

Gareth Knight, 37, pleaded guilty to unlawfully wounding Andrew Krzykawski in the early hours of March 12.

He was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with supervision, an alcohol treatment requirement and 150 hours of unpaid work.

Bradford Crown Court heard today the men were drinking and taking drugs at Knight's home in Necropolis Road, Great Horton, Bradford.

They had a history of drinking heavily together and sometimes fighting one another.

Knight became argumentative and was headbutted and punched by Mr Krzykawski after goading him.

He then followed Mr Krzykawski upstairs to the bathroom and stabbed him twice in the neck.

Luckily, he missed all the major blood vessels and his friend, who attended court to support him, was on track for a full recovery.

Judge David Hatton QC heard that Knight was extremely sorry and had since made big changes to his life.

The men were still good friends and Mr Krzykawski did not want him to go to jail.
