A LANTERN parade has been organised at Lister Park next month, which will also feature a parade of 75 women dressed as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.

Glinda the Good Witch of the South will also be present and art installations will be dotted around the park for the event on Saturday October 11, with music from local bands Northern Lights and Jamba Samba.

The ‘75 Dorothys’ are part of the ‘Echoes of OZ’ project, jointly funded by the Arts Council England and Bradford Council, inspired by the film's 75th anniversary.

A day of activities is planned before the lantern parade, including lantern making, street theatre, music and dance.

Work on lanterns for the parade has been going on for the last year and the Artworks Creative Communities group worked with people from the Holme Wood area to create sculptures to decorate the route. The Cecil Green Arts group worked with communities in the west of the city to create lanterns, including some large ones which will form a focal point for the parade.

Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe executive member for Employment, Skills and Culture at Bradford Council said: "I'm really pleased that the Arts Council and Government have prioritised Bradford for this investment in arts and culture. It creates the opportunity to bring together the work created by our communities and arts organisations in the fabulous setting of Lister Park."

A community lantern making workshop for the parade will also take place today from 7pm-9pm at Drummonds Mill on Lumb Lane. To book your place contact Harry Kingham on 07518 402079.
