A CHILDREN'S safety project has opened its doors at a new venue in Bradford.

Stay Safe is funded by Bradford Council and teaches children how to be aware of, and avoid, everyday risks.

The project's previous venue closed but now Bradford Bulls have offered a site at their Odsal stadium.

The new venue was used for the first time on September 22 with an event held for the next eight days after that.

Twenty-five Bradford primary schools will take part with almost 1,500 students learning how to stay safe.

Stay Safe features scenarios on safety around dogs, electricity, fire, first aid, gas, railways, water and school transition.

The project also visits secondary schools and makes a presentation on hazard awareness in the workplace.

Councillor Ralph Berry, Bradford Council's executive member for children's services, said: "This is an incredibly important project for children in the district which we feared could have been lost.

"It is great to have this new venue which allow more of our young people to get this safety training which could help to keep them safe in the future."
