A NEW, not-for-profit, comedy evening has started in Bradford - and a 15-year-old boy was one of the stars of the inaugural event.

Comedy Hat, an initiative run by Vicky Meer and Mike Clifton, is a fun-filled evening featuring established and upcoming comedians that will be held each month at Forster's Bistro in City Park.

And teenager Callum Stoneman proved a star-turn alongside comics from Bradford, York, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester.

The youngster finished joint-second with Pesha Lily, behind winner Jared Shooter. The trio all now have a place in the Comedy Hat final next March, where they will compete for the title of 'Comedy Hat Comedian of the Year' and a £300 prize.

The evening sees the audience scores the comedians and choose the two winners. There is also an on-the-night prize for the funniest joke.

Organisers Vicky and Mike said: "We both live and work in Bradford and want to bring more people into Bradford, the city we love. As we are not-for-profit, all ticket sales pay for marketing, food, comedians and prizes."

Marc Philpott, manager at Forster's, said: "Forster's Bistro and Deli is absolutely delighted to have the privilege of working in partnership with Comedy Hat.

“Our mission is to create Forster's as a go-to destination not just for our excellent food and service but to encourage footfall in the city and bring back the buzz which Bradford seems to have been lacking lately."

Tickets, priced £5, are available for the October 2 and November shows, and include supper.
