EVERY word of the Bible will be read aloud in an 84-hour marathon event at a Spen Valley church.

Bishop Nick Baines, First Bishop of the new diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales, will start the non-stop reading of The Living Bible, dubbed 'Alpha - Omega, A-Z', at St Mary's Parish Church, Spen Lane, Gomersal.

A total of 336 slots, each lasting 15 minutes, will be needed to complete the mammoth task.

Participants are coming from Halifax, Newcastle and even Australia to take part, with 250 different voices set to be heard.

The marathon event will start at 11am on Sunday, September 14, after the church's Sunday Eucharist at 9.30am. The reading is scheduled to finish by 11pm on Wednesday, September 17.

People have also been invited to attend the church during the readings to listen to proceedings.

Trees Fewster, event organiser, said: "I hope the event will raise awareness of the Bible.

"It's a fun way of doing things. I thought it would be nice to read the Bible from beginning to end.

"There is a good, broad spectrum of people taking part. The youngest person taking part is ten and the oldest is 92.

"It is something completely different. We have had a really good response to it."
