CAMPAIGNERS opposing the start of grouse shooting on Ilkley Moor rambled in protest at the weekend and had a picnic.
About 30 protesters including teachers, lawyers, local residents and students staged the protest on Saturday in a bid to persuade Bradford Council to ban grouse shooting on the publicly-owned moor.
Ban Bloodsports on Ilkley Moor (BBIM) is a coalition of regional campaigners and has vowed to be up on the moorland on each of the eight shooting dates throughout the season.
BBIM spokesman Luke Steele said: “We want Bradford Council to change its mind and put a stop to grouse shooting because it is inherently cruel and causes much damage.”
Leasing the moor for grouse shooting generates £10,000 per year for the council, which helps it manage the moor.
