BRADFORD MPs are calling for more talk on Gaza as the crisis claims its first minister to resign.

Yorkshire-born Foreign Office Minister Baroness Warsi gave up her post yesterday, branding the Government's policy on Gaza as "morally indefensible".

Lady Warsi, who was the first Muslim to sit in Cabinet, told Prime Minister David Cameron she could no longer support the Government's stance on the issue.

Her resignation and reasons for it were met with admiration from some MPs in Bradford although Shipley Conservative MP Philip Davies said he did not share her "analysis of the situation."

"I admire her for putting her beliefs ahead of her political ambitions and career but I don't share or agree with her analysis. My view is there's right and wrong on both sides of the Middle eastern conflict and just trying to say the fault is on one side is not right or helpful. It needs statesmen from both sides to look at it from each other's perspective."

Lady Warsi wrote in her resignation letter she believed the Government's policy in relation to the Middle East peace process was "not in Britain's national interest and will have a long-term detrimental impact on our reputation internationally and domestically."

There is reportedly growing unease among some Conservative MPs that the Government has failed to take a firmer line with Israel over its incursion into Gaza in the face of mounting Palestinian casualties.

Lady Warsi had signalled her own concern about what was happening in a series of comments on her Twitter feed in recent days.

In one she wrote: "Can people stop trying to justify the killing of children. Whatever our politics there can never be justification, surely only regret #Gaza."

Lib Dem Bradford East MP David Ward said: "I'm sorry she's gone but she's done the right thing in my view. Most people recognise the work she has done but I think it's common knowledge she's been quite unhappy for some time about a number of things, not just Gaza."

So far more than 73,000 people have signed Mr Ward's on-line petition urging the British Government to call for an immediate end to Israeli military operations.

He added: "I've got to compliment Nick Clegg for saying the only realistic way forward is to negotiate with Hamas. We've more than 70,000 now on my petition saying Israel needs to negotiate with Hamas. Unless pressure is put on Israel and they abide by United Nations resolutions then internationally we need to bring about boycott, divestment and sanctions."

Bradford West MP George Galloway has called for Parliament to be recalled immediately to urgently debate the Gaza crisis. He was unavailable for comment yesterday.

Bradford South MP Gerry Sutcliffe and Keighley MP Kris Hopkins were also unavailable.

She had a position to influence those whom she complained about, now she has no influence, not a clever move!

"Bradford West MP George Galloway has called for Parliament to be recalled immediately to urgently debate the Gaza crisis. He was unavailable for comment yesterday." How ironic.

"Bradford South MP Gerry Sutcliffe and Keighley MP Kris Hopkins were also unavailable." Yes 'course they were.

Negotiating with someone who denies your right to exist, might not be so easy.

Any fix will only be temporary but hopefully there will be one.

On Calendar news just said that Bradford is seen as a centre of support for Palestine. Only because our looney left leaders in Chuff Hall flew a flag 'without jurisdiction' off thr top of said Chuff Hall. For allowing that to happen Green & co need to go now! . Never mind £100k plus salaries and then insult Council tax payers by flying that flag!. Its not up to Carntcillors to force their persuasions upon the people of Bradford. They are there at our bidding. So what next is going to fly off Chuff Hall? Black flag of ISIS? Boka Haram flag? Nazi swashtika? Klu Klux Klan banner? Bradford Dulls flag? I kid you not.Lets send this lot bunkered in Chuff Hall packing next time !

Nothing to do with this country. For once lets keep our noses out of other peoples disputes. If you help you get no thanks but criticism if you dont help it's the same. Look at Syria, complaints because we didn't go, in Afghanistan and Iraq complaints because we did. Muslim demonstrating should decide what they want, to live here in peace or go and fight. Their decision but do not force your protests on us. As an aside, I have yet to see people demonstrating about what ISIS is doing, two faced comes to mind.

Baroness Warsi has chosen to put her Islamic beliefs ahead of her duty to party and country. This is unacceptable, and shows the basic problem of employing Muslims in public life, their loyalty to this country cannot be guaranteed.

Also her belief that Hamas is all good (because they are Muslim) and Israel is all bad (because they are not Muslim) is naive in the extreme. Israel has a right to defend itself and Hamas is acting unlawfully and cynically when it uses ordinary Palestinian citizens as human shields. This is something Israel would never do.

I agree entirely. Baroness Warsi has clearly decided to ignore the concept of cabinet responsibility. This is selfish and irresponsible and the fact that she did it because of her Islamic beliefs certainly raises the issue of where a Muslim's loyalties will lie when the chips are down. Religion or Country?

If it lies with religion, how much responsibility and authority is it safe to give them? For instance would a Muslim Minister of Defence sanction military operations against the Taliban?

Baroness Warsi is clearly a woman of principle and unlike David Cameron and others, clearly knows right from wrong.

Indeed, the conflict will be unending unless we start to look at the constant war in new ways of solving it and not just political solutions with no long-term basis for peace and development for the people of the Middle East. Indeed these political failures have continued infinitum as history has shown through the continual death toll of the long-term so-called political solutions ever since Israel became a sovereign state in 1948.

Whatever Ms. Warsi's personal feeling on the Gaza conflict she had no right to let them interfere with her loyalty to the party which should have been her primary concern.

This is just an exercise in mischief making as shown by the number of interviews she has chosen to give to left-leaning journalists. She is giving succour to the socialists and undermining the prime Minister.

In my view she should resign the party and step down as an MP. David Cameron should think twice before promoting any more Muslims. They are nothing but trouble makers on both the domestic and international stages.

Warsi decision is no surprise - and it is probably right - although she now has no influence on the situation at all. She feels it sincerely as she is Islamic. It is not our business other than we should deny offending export licenses. Israel is already in default of UN edicts and are unlikely to accept any suggestion that they do not approve - they are a democracy surrounded by hostile neighbours who believe they should not exist, and appear to have made neglible progress since since Israel was formed in 1948. Hamas has to change too - panic reigns and this is not visible with Israelis.

Some of the comments above are unacceptable. Yes, you can disagree with this woman's decision but to say Muslims should be banned from public office in their own country is racist. Eg In Nazi Germany in the 1930s Hitler banned Jews from taking public office.

I am not a Muslim but I do not want to see anyone banned from taking public office because of their beliefs, provided they are within the law.

Ms Varsi has taken a humanitarian stand and deserves credit for that, not abuse. To say she did it because the casualties were Muslim is a mean- spirited and nasty accusation for which the accuser has no evidence, just prejudice.

The Palestinians have lost about 1800 dead, mainly children. The Israelis approx. 60.

Imagine four or five large school playgrounds in Bradford filled with children. Then, imagine them all lying dead. Yes, that's what it amounts to. The 60 Israeli dead is also a cause for sadness but the the death tole is not equal and in this present calamity the two sides can not be condemned equally. Israel has an airforce with up to date killing power, The Palestinians do not. It is like Mohammed Ali taking on Amir khan!

Our govt. do not do what most decent, honest, intelligent individuals do when assessing a problem or calamity involving Israel. They automatically, criticise the Palestinians with just a 'slap on the wrist' for Israel.

This is unfair and of course the USA is even worse. Honest brokers are neeed to deal with this situation but where are they to come from.?

What is to be done? First, a prolonged ceasefire is needed to take the heat out of the situation. Then talks must be restarted, with the honest- brokers attempting to do just as their name implies.

First, Palestinians could promise no more rocket attacks if Israel stops their blitz of Gaza. Then Israel needs to agree to stop the building of more and more new settlements on Palestinian land if Palestine agrees to a two state solution.

It sounds easy- of course it's not. It's worse than N. Ireland but, it isn't insolvable, but it needs honesty, decency, fairness, empathy from both sides and determination to stop the killing, and provide an equal bright future for both sides.

Why would she say anything about ISIS? As I've said many times on these pages ISIS murder the wrong type of innocent Muslims (Shia) so it's no big deal. There is absolutely no call from the UK Muslim community for the UK government to do anything about it either. Strange

In my view she should resign the party and step down as an MP. David Cameron should think twice before promoting any more Muslims. They are nothing but trouble makers on both the domestic and international stages.

It's only on an anonymous site like this that people can stoop to the depths to come out with the most outrageous bile and poisonous comments. Nobody on here who has written these things would wish to have their name and face associated with such stuff in public view.

Yet, perhaps we need to see and read it all in all its horribleness to realise the prejudice, racism and pure bloody hatred that underpins even in a minority (I hope so) fashion what some think of as a tolerant society here in Bradford.

Those in positions of power need to read it too, because there's clearly a long long way to go in terms of educating people against some of the evils that still persist in certain minds but which come to the surface, at times like this.

It's all very sad, and clearly 21st century or not, the dark side of human nature lives on and even gets the thumbs up from others, who again would prefer to remain anonymous.

And do you think 'your approach' would solve the troubles in The Middle East?

Are the Israelis completely right in all they do? Are they right to go on building on Palestinian land? Is the Israeli airforce right in killing hundreds of children?

The Israelis have state of the art military hardware and nuclear weapons, and the disproportionate percentage of casualties on each side shows which one has the greater power and which is suffering most.

Israel needs to be acknowledged as having a right to exist, but so too does Palestine and until that happens and other countries with honest, intelligent and empathetic leaders help that to happen there will, to quote your words "be no peace."

However, I suspect, looking at some of the comments on here others, perhaps you too, have another agenda that has more to do with Muslims living in Bradford than on the Gaza Strip!

There are some fairly extreme comments on here, i grant you.
The whole conflict in Gaza is an extremely divisive subject and the views we hear are either that Israel are, to quote someone on here, worse than the Nazi's and Hamas are defending themselves from evil Israel. Or we hear that Hamas continue to break ceasefires and fire indescriminately at civillian targets with the sole aim of killing women and children.
Clearly it is not a black and white issue so when our great council decide to pick a side and wave a flag above City Hall people are understandably pi$$ed off.

I also think that history teaches that one country's terrorists are another's freedom fighters.

In WW2 we praised the work of underground resistance groups operating in France, Belgium, and Poland. They were called terrorists by the occupying Wehrmacht and shot when captured.
There were plans laid down by Churchill for such public rest instance if Germany had invaded England in 1940. these groups would have blown up trains, main places of occupation and killed as many Germans as possible and been hailed as heroes by the indigenous population. And in 1948 there were Jewish groups called the Irgun and the Stern gangs blowing things up and killing people, incl. British people who were there at the time eg King David hotel.
The Palestinians see their position in that way.

That's not to condone killing but empathy and understanding for the situation of both sides- the Jews who were treated horribly during WW2 and the Palestinians too who have lost a large part of their land is needed before any chance of solving the middle east's problems can be grasped.

If yours is an attempt to explain some of the "extreme" comments on here, I am afraid I don't agree.

If they don't like the flag being flown, criticise that by all means, but that reason does not exonerate those people for their views.

In any case, I feel that the 'flag' has been blown out of all proportion. ( pun intended!) The gesture is intended to show solidarity with people who have suffered terribly. Eg as in other parts of the world- Nelson Mandela etc It ISNT the Hamas flag, it's the flag of the Palestinian people. Many groups support Palestinians in their difficulties- there are groups in mainstream political parties and many people wear that flag as a badge.

Many Jewish people you might be surprised to learn support justice for Palestine groups because apart from sympathising with them in a humanitarian sense they know there will be no long term peace for Israel until it has settled with the Palestinians. ie like Britain did with the IRA, loyalist groups in N Ireland. However, Zionists want to get rid of all Palestinians by any means necessary, as do extreme Arabs, Israel.

Bombing the Palestinians will not solve any probs for Israel because there will always be more to take their place. After Bloody Sunday, the IRA's numbers grew enormously.

Only a negotiated peace settlement, fair to both sides can ultimately lead to a chance of extended peace, which is what most decent, fair minded people want to see.

Israel is a product of western hypocrisy at its finest. Most of the comments on here are full of ignorance and narrow mindedness. Countries in the west claim to be champions of human rights but yet don’t do anything to stop Israel’s human rights abuses.

For those of you who are claiming Hamas are killing children and civilians may be you should read a bit more. There have been 60 Israeli casualties all but 2 were soldiers, there has been 1600 Palestinian casualties 900 of which were children. They are the facts according to the BBC. For those of you claiming that Hamas fir rockets form schools and hospitals should know that 3 UN schools have been bombed, do you really think that the UN was letting their schools be used as rocket launching sites, get real! Get your facts right before you start piping up please!

For those of you who are claiming that Muslim outrage is selective because there have been no protests against ISIS are showing how ill informed you are. The government has been more than eloquent in denouncing ISIS and have already pledged their support for Nouri al-Malaki. There puppet master in the US has already sent 300 Special Forces and are contemplating air strikes. So there no need for protests because there already something being done. The pro-Palestine protests are because of government inaction and the fact the government loses its tongue and b**l’s when it comes to Israel.

For those who don’t want Brit involvement in this issue, I am sorry to tell you that its way to late. If you read the above article you would know that Britain provides weapons plus other support for Israel. For those of you who have followed the conflict for longer than the past month would also know that Israel exists because of a British mandate of Palatine. What right did Britain have to give Palestine to Zionists?

The holocaust guilt on here is ridiculous. On this issue, well done Baroness Warsi for proving that you have principles and a sole that is not for sale!

Warsi has been a supporter of Hamas since 2006, or that has been, from when she publicly backed them. Warsi was recently asked about the islamification of schools in Birmingham, to which she replied "were a tolerant society". For sombody of her humble beginnings to rise to where she is, hasn't been her intelectual prowess.
Israel are a huge power and have used it too much. But how can they fight a enemy which hides in schools, hotels or anywhere there are huge swathes of innocent people. The Palestians need to stop sacrificing themselves and take on Hamas. You are not a good muslim if you sacrifice your whole family just because some man says so!!. Has for warsi she is only interested in muslims. Read the article in the spectator her history is very enlightening.

I don't believe Britain has ever stopped hounding a military solution to foreign problems over all the years, but I agree we should take a leaf out of the modern German book. Trouble is its a bit late since we spend much time arming countries incl. Israel to the teeth.

Yes, that sounds plausible- David Cameron having a supporter of Hamas in his cabinet!!!!???!!

And as for her intellectual abilities, I can't imagine her colleagues would have put up with having someone lacking, working beside them. After all, there needs to be more women in Parliament, but they do need to be up to the job.

"Drone footage" - ah yes, those amazing modern contraptions that allow people to be slaughtered from a long distance away. Though called, lovingly "smart weapons" they have an annoyingly consistent habit of mowing down civilians.

The deliberate killing of civilians is outlawed by the UN, by the way.

You are so petty. The last school to be hit is being disputed because the crater is outside the school? It’s not like the Israelis to miss a school however do you think it matters whether a state of the art bomb full of explosives lands on the pavement in front of the school or directly on it. That is the most ridiculous defence ever. I think if one of these bombs lands near you or on you the damage and human casualties would be significant. Hamas were probably moving bodies inside for identification you can’t expect them to leave them to rot on the pavement.

The view on this is so simplistic from anywhere else in the country. Just not Bradford (or maybe Tower Hamlets).
1) Hamas fire rockets daily into Israel targeting CIVILIANS. The anti-Israel brigade fail to recognise or acknowledge that.
2) Israel rightly retaliates, targeting the original perpetrators.
3) The original perpetrators (cowards) take up residence in schools / hospitals, knowing full well they will cause 'outrage'.
4) Israel warns Palestinian civilians to leave these places that house rocket-firers.
Galloway and other do-gooders would have time better spent telling Hamas to stay away from civilian areas when carrying out their vile attacks.
Galloway should also be reported for Hate Crime (I have just done so) for this broadcast from OUR city at the weekend. This is full-on racial / religious hatred and should not be tolerated.

Why do you fail to understand that the rockets are fired in retaliation to Israel's economic and energy embargo on Gaza. There is hardly ever any civilian deaths because of the rocket attacks because of the iron dome missile system and they dont happen as often as you like to make up.

Every Day in Syria more people are killed than in all of the war so far in Gaza. Who are these thousands of men, women and children being murdered every day and who is killing them?
Muslims killing Muslims. To be more specific Sunni Muslims killing Shia Muslims. Even the Christians in Iraq are given the choice, give us money or die. Shia are simply executed. Ask yourself why is it that there are no protests or flag flying for these fellow Muslims in Bradford. Why is it seemingly ok by the majority Sunni Muslims in Bradford for this slaughter to go unprotested. Is it okay for Muslims to kill Muslims but not Jews to kill Muslims?
You may not be aware of a Palestinian refugee camp near Damascus in Syria(yes Muslim controlled area) it is called Yarmouk. Research it yourself. The inhabitants are being starved to death in atrocious conditions. No reports of this in the news or protested on the streets of Bradford. Basically the point I am making is that what people are experiencing is propaganda at its worst. The cynical manipulation of people for what is simply a fund raising cash cow for extremist groups.
You can work this one out for yourself with basic maths. Gaza is a tiny piece of land with a small population. Many Muslims, sadly, are pretty stupid and ignorant since they have been brainwashed from time immemorial - well, ever since that fellow who proclaimed himself a prophet called Muhammed sat down one day and wrote a fictional book called the Koran, pouring out his innermost thoughts and pretentious rubbish, never imagining that one day billions of simple, ignorant and backward people would believe it!

The cause of 99 per cent of the troubles in this sad little world of ours is religion and Muslims are usually behind about 90 per cent of it because they have had their pestilential religion and culture thrust down their throats from the day they were born and are simply not educated or intelligent enough to question or analyse it. I apply the same logic and statement to ALL religions, it goes without saying. Abolish religion and the human race would move on by leaps and bounds. Stick with religion and we will remain forever in the Dark Ages.

Concerning Gaza, both sides have much to answer for. Yes, Israel's response to the constant attacks on them is perhaps excessive, but who can blame them? The Hamas cowards hide behind women and children and the other Arab countries, who could easily accommodate the Palestinian refugees if they chose to, prefer to keep them in the front line as dispensible pawns in their war against Israel. All they have to do is recognise Israel's right to exist and offer homes to the Palestinian refugees and the conflict would be solved. But of course, they won't do this because they want to keep the war going for their own ends.

This entire debate about who's right and who's wrong in Gaza, whether it's Muslims or Israelis, is utterly fatuous and fallacious because everything being said addresses the WRONG issue!

For me, there is only one issue that matters, i.e. that the one evil at the heart of everything is the cancerous poison of religion. Yes, billions of ignorant Muslims have been brainwashed from birth to believe in the nonsense called the Koran written by some so-called prophet 1500 years ago - but, then, so have billions of Christians been brainwashed to believe in the fables and fairy tales in the Bible. Both are works of fiction!

Religion has been responsible for more wars, deaths, atrocities and barbarities than any other single factor in history. Is there any difference between the genocide in Syria and Iraq today and the bloodshed of the Crusades or the Spanish Inquisition? The human race will never move forward until it finally realises that ALL religions, without exception, are an enormous confidence trick perpetrated upon the self deluded and ignorant by false prophets and that God, Allah, whatever you want to call him, exists only in the minds of unthinking people incapable of applying logic and analysis. Let mankind - and womankind, naturally - cast off the yoke and shackles of religion and only then, just possibly, will there be hope for the world!

Galloway and other do-gooders would have time better spent telling Hamas to stay away from civilian areas when carrying out their vile attacks.

Say - just in the last 500 years or so.
Looking at the main news stories today. A lot of them are about Islamist atrocities and maniacs. And getting worse by the hour. Cue the usual suspects to say it's all a Zionist/CIA/Democrac y conspiracy plot to discredit Islam. As they do every single time. I've obviously forgotten - but can someone remind me of anything positive to come out the Islamist world - wherever it might be? Say - just in the last 500 years or so. idf fanclub

To 2fly4U
Nobel Laureate Prizes
Score: Jews have won 191 prizes across all sectors. Muslims have won 10.
191 v 10.
What does that tell you about your Muslim Lands, I would say slightly backward, what do you think?

Oh, that really upset me. Anyway, how old are you? That comment was just lame!

Totally of topic to what was being discussed, but I will humour even though it’s just to annoy you. I think the Nobel Peace Prize is given to people for politically motivated reasons.
By the way, what happened to our last conversation? Do you concede the point?
What makes you think I am a Muslim and from one of these lands?
Next time stick to the topic because talking about Muslims and Jews just proves you have an axe to grind about wider issues (Islam) and just discredits anything you have to say about Israel and Palestine!

You are quite wrong there. Radical Islam hijacked the secular PLO and abandoned a political struggle in favour of outright murder. Thats the Islamic way. Anyone for a game of ISIS?

Flypie and co...

Nice to see your hero Gallybags and his Islamist stooges getting made fools of by the visit to this city by Israelis.

Great initiative. Great idea. Great welcome.

And - just as good - I've seen "Israelis welcome here" stickers going up in shops and restaurants. Best of all when they are put over the "Free Gaza" and Respect gibber.

Long live Israel.
