People who now want a postal vote have to provide their date of birth and a specimen of their signature to the Council.

Bradford Council will be writing to all postal voters this month enclosing a form which shows the details we currently hold on our system.

Salman Mather, the Council's democratic services manager, said: ""Each time the person votes by post, their signature and date of birth provided on the postal voting statement will be checked against their records. This will help to prevent someone else from fraudulently using their vote."

To continue to vote by post the filled-in forms should be returned no later than March 1 to register in time for the May local elections.

It follows new regulations to help combat election fraud.

Anyone wishing to apply for a postal vote for the first time should call (01274) 432287.
