Police have branded youths as "idiots" for adding to the misery of people living among roadworks in Cross Hills.
The village is sometimes grid-locked while contractors lay a new gas pipe and police have received reports of youths picking up traffic signs and hurling them into the road.
A police spokesman said officers had attended the scene and took details of those responsible.
She added: "Members of the public are suffering enough down there without these idiots causing more problems."
